Denham Springs is site of Iberia Bank’s latest expansion

Published October 2012: What was once a small local bank in Acadiana has gone through more than a century of growth and recent acquisitions to become part of the largest bank holding company headquartered in Louisiana. Iberia Bank, founded in New Iberia in 1887, is a subsidiary of Iberia Bank Corporation which has $12.1 billion in assets as of June 30, 2012.

Sherry Mely, Vice President and Branch Manager; Sharon Kell, Marketing Executive; Nicole Gautreau, Iberia Bank Mortgage executive; and Ben Marmande, Iberia Bank Baton Rouge President, greeted visitors and helped celebrate the grand opening of the new Iberia Bank in Denham Springs

In January 2007, Iberia Bank had 45 branches and operated only in Louisiana. Today, Iberia Bank Corporation has 187 bank branch offices in Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, and Florida, 22 title insurance offices in Arkansas and Louisiana, and mortgage representatives in 60 locations in 12 states and employs more than 2,500 experienced banking professionals and associates.

The most recent expansion of Iberia Bank is at 822 S. Range Ave., Denham Springs, just north of Wal-Mart. The branch opened in August, and a ribbon-cutting and grand opening reception was held October 2.

Sherry Mely serves as vice president and branch manager of the new location. With over 34 years of experience in the banking industry, she most recently served as branch manager of the  Whitney Bank which was in the building Iberia Bank now occupies. Mely currently serves on the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce. She previously was the Chamber’s chairman of the board, served six years on the executive board, and received their 2011 Board Member of the Year Award.

“I’m very excited to be an Iberia manager,” Mely said. “The values and principles of Iberia appealed to me because I feel their ideals are closely aligned with mine, which are to take care of our customers. Iberia differentiates itself through its emphasis on customer service. For example, while customers at other banks may have to wait for decisions on loans, our decisions are made locally.”

“We’ve had Livingston Parish on our radar for some time, and the time and opportunity was right to locate there when this property became available,” said Ben Marmande, Iberia Bank Baton Rouge President. “It was already a bank building and the location was perfect. It all came together when we were able to get Sherry Mely for our team. She is from there and knows the market and knows the people; she gives us instant credibility in the community. As she said, at Iberia Bank it truly is all about the customer. I know everybody says that, but we absolutely execute that. Iberia Bank invests in communities not only financially, but as participants and volunteers to support local charitable, educational, cultural, and business development efforts. Our bank leaders and associates alike are active in civic organizations.”

Marmande added, “We’re very bullish on Livingston Parish. Our new branch is an example our commitment to the area and to our local leadership. We’re looking at other sites in the parish with the possibility of adding another branch – but there’s no decision yet.”

Iberia Bank offers seven types of checking accounts; six of them waive service charges with certain qualifications, and the seventh has a flat $10 monthly fee; four earn interest with certain minimum balances. Savings account choices are a money market account, CDs, IRAs, a holiday savings account and a health savings account. A wide range of investment services include products and strategies to fit different goals, including estate planning. Commercial accounts are also available.

Loans offered are mortgage, personal, home equity, construction and auto. Four types of Visa credit cards and a Visa debit card are available. Services include online banking and bill pay, mobile and text banking, e-statements, bank-to-bank transfers and complimentary direct connect to Quicken or QuickBooks.

The Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Iberia Bank on October 2, 2012. Sherry Mely, Branch Manager, recently opened the new branch at 822 S. Range Ave in Denham Springs. Mely said, “Our ATM  allows check image deposits and is available 24/7. We are the first branch to get a teller cash recycler which automates cash handling at the teller line.”

The cash recyclers are capable of accepting and dispensing numerous denominations and multiple currencies. The cash recycler speeds up transactions, reduces wait times and improves customer interaction and also checks for accuracy and for counterfeit bills.

“Business was very good when we opened August 21, but then a week later Hurricane Isaac came along, and that was somewhat of a setback, so we’re still getting the word out about being open,” Mely commented. “More people are coming in all the time, and a lot of them are clients I’ve worked with for years. We invite everyone to stop by and visit.”

The Denham Springs branch location serves clients Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with drive-through hours Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Phone 225-923-4390; for more information, visit www.iberiabank.com.
