The public is invited to historic Springfield June 30 for its 6th Annual Independence Day Celebration. Come to Fayard’s Field in Springfield and enjoy a family afternoon of fun with car, 4×4 and motorcycle shows at 5 p.m.,  a Duck Dynasty Lookalike Contest at 7 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m. There will be fun, food and music for the entire family. Red, White & Blue Day on July 4 in Walker The Livingston Parish Veterans Association invites the public to Red, White & Blue Day at Sidney Hutchinson Park in Walker on July 4. A dedication ceremony will be at 1 p.m. at the pavilion. Field activities such as baseball games, sack races and tug of war will begin at 10 a.m. Food will be offered at 11 a.m. including shrimp, crawfish, hamburgers and more. Music will begin at 1 p.m. with Pro Sounds DJ’s, Gene Williams’ Highway 16 Band and RV Band. Fireworks will follow at dark. Bring your own lawn chairs. For more information, go to lpvaweb.org.

Livingston celebrates Independence Day in Circle Park The Town of Livingston will hold their annual Independence Day celebration in Circle Park on July 4th. The public is invited to join the festivities at 5 p.m. which will include food, games, and music, and fireworks at 9 p.m. People can bring their own food, but no grills and no alcohol. Buy your July 4 fireworks from WOW to support shelter Fireworks of all kinds will be sold at the Women Outreaching Women (WOW) stand on 4-H Club Road in Denham Springs June 25 – July 4. WOW provides shelter for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence. When you buy your fireworks from them you are helping provide this important assistance.

Volunteers are needed to help price and sort fireworks, stock shelves and help customers. Individuals, businesses, civic organizations, churches and school groups are all welcome to help. To volunteer, contact Brenda at 225-791-3940 or e-mail assistant@womenowomen.com.

Summer Splash 2013 Fashion Show benefit Get tickets now to the Unique Me Boutique Supper Splash Fashion Show, July 6, 6:30 p.m. at Greystone Country Club. The event will be poolside at the Greystone Pavilion and will include a fashion show, music, door prizes and vendor booths. Children’s play combines tales of Cinderella: The next production of The Teen Spotlight Players is “Cinderella Stories,” a collaboration of the various Cinderella tales from around the world. The performances will be at Wholly Ground Coffee House, 27988 Walker South Rd., Walker on Friday July 26 at 7pm, and Saturday July 27 at 2pm and 7pm.

Those attending the Saturday matinee are invited to stay after the performance for a “Princess Party” and enjoy refreshments with the Cinderella cast. All ages are encouraged to wear their favorite princess or prince costumes, but costumes are not required. Ticket prices are $10 per person for regular performances. Special Saturday matinee and cast party ticket is $15 per person. There will also be princess merchandise for sale at each show.

The play was written by Donna Van Oss, drama teacher for Denham Springs High School, and John Underwood, drama teacher for Denham Springs Freshman High School. Tickets will go on sale the first week of July at Wholly Ground Coffee House or by calling 225-315-3776.

Evening in the Park benefit is a fun night of entertainment Plan to enjoy an Evening in the Park, Aug. 10 6-10 p.m., at Tony Dugas North Park Recreation Center dancing to live music by Big River Express, dining and bidding in a silent auction. • Free music clinics offered – Pam Dyess of Overtones Music Studio, 30663 LA Hwy 16, will offer music clinics at Overtones Music Studio. Martial arts summer camp has two sessions ATA Martial Arts summer camp is June 24-28 and July 15-19, 8 a.m.-3:30 pm. Early drop off and later pickup is available. Age 7 and up, including adults, are welcome, and all ranks are welcome. Students will get five full days of training to work on basic and advanced techniques, weapons, sparring, self defense and to get a jump start on new rank material. Dog Adoption Days at Walker Walgreen’s The SPCA of Livingston will hold adoption events for dogs and puppies on June 29 at the Walgreens in Walker from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cokes and hot dogs will be sold.

Popular local group Chase Tyler Band  will debut their new CD “Just Add Beer,” June 22, at Extra Innings Sport Sports Bar, 14350 Wax Rd. in Central.

Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., and the band will perform at 9 p.m. Tickets are $25 and available for advance sale at Extra Innings. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

Cruise into Broadway Place for fun every month

Cruise In arrives at Broadway Place Shopping Center on the 1st Saturday night of each month. The next Cruise In at Broadway is July 6, 5-8p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Car collectors and those who restore their hot rods, trucks and all motor vehicles are invited to display their vehicles to benefit Child Advocacy Services (CASA).
