Greystone Golf & Country Club celebrating a decade of growth

Greystone Golf & Country Club broke ground in March of 2005, and in July 2006 they were putting the finishing touches on a first-rate golf and country club and residential community –and were featured on the first-ever cover of The Livingston Business Journal.
But the development didn’t stop in 2006. With the golf course finished, a temporary clubhouse open, and the first homes constructed, the owners turned their attention to building a new permanent clubhouse and adding other amenities.
The resulting 20,000 square foot permanent clubhouse complex now serving members also includes an Olympic-size swimming pool, children’s spray park, basketball court, tennis courts, playground, fitness area, pro shop and grill.
Greystone offers families a serene residential setting and resort lifestyle in a parish with top schools and low crime. It is conveniently located just 10 miles east of the Interstate 10/12 split in Baton Rouge and two miles southeast of Denham Springs. It’s also within 5 minutes of both Juban Crossing shopping mall and the development surrounding Bass Pro, and within 10 minutes of Denham Springs’ Antiques & Arts Village. Major health clinics are nearby.

The name of the game
The premier attraction at Greystone is, of course, golf. The 18-hole semi-private course winds around many scenic lakes, streams and stands of trees.
Derk Lockhart, a member of the Lockhart family that purchased Greystone three years ago, said, “It’s a beautifully designed golf course, and it’s in the best shape it has ever been in due to our continuing practice of good maintenance and improvements.”
While Greystone’s golf course is recognized as one of the more challenging in the state, playing from the proper tees provides an enjoyable challenge for both highly-skilled golfers and the average player. Greystone is also equipped with a driving range and chipping and putting areas, and the PGA staff is available for lessons.
Greystone’s website outlines golf options such as the “Standard Outing Package” which includes green fees, cart and range balls.
Tournaments are welcome to stage their events at Greystone. Professional assistance is available and includes on-course contest set-up, customized rule sheets, scorecards and cart signage and a professional cart staff.
According to Lockhart, “Many corporations, associations, campaigns and private groups choose us each year and return to Greystone again and again. Whether it is a large charity event or just a group of 12 on a golf getaway, our staff will work hard to ensure the clients’ complete satisfaction.”

Events at Greystone are catered by their in-house catering service which offers packages ranging from casual to extreme elegance, for both large and small events, with menu choices from club sandwiches to filet mignon. Their team understands that each event is one-of-a-kind and will customize a catering package unique to each client’s preferences.
“We go out of our way to try to find a way to accommodate every request of our clients,” Event Coordinator Dawn Martinez said. “We get so many compliments on our food and service from our brides and others who host events here. They especially like that the facility is so well decorated that they do not need to add many additional decorations for their event.”
Martinez offers her assistance to clients to act as a sort of “day-of-the-event” coordinator to tend to any last minute details needing attention. She also has ideas for adding fun elements to an event while keeping the clients’ traditions intact.
To discuss event planning or to schedule a tour of the facility, contact Martinez. She advised, “We still have dates available but are starting to get booked through the end of the year and into 2017, so I suggest everyone call soon.”

Swimming, Tennis and Fitness

Tennis courts are adjacent to the Pavilion, and lessons are available; a fun and safe playground for kids is nearby. Visit their fitness facility to see all available workout equipment and options.

Greystone properties
“Greystone is thriving and growing,” said Derk Lockhart, on behalf of the other Lockhart family owners. “We opened a new filing in January; all 21 lots have been sold, and construction of five homes is underway. We will be developing two new filings which will create 90 new lots for homes. Those properties will be ready at the beginning of 2017; after that, we anticipate adding another 100 lots.”

“Anyone who has an interest in club membership or a home site should make an appointment to come take a tour,” Lockhart continued. “Because we’re tucked away in a quiet area, even after 10 years, there are still some people who aren’t aware that we are here. Once they come for a visit they are impressed with our golf course, facilities and neighborhoods and see that Greystone is a great place to live, play and raise a family. We are dedicated to making Greystone the greatest place to live in Livingston Parish.”
Various memberships are available at Greystone; see information on their website or call the business office.

greystone4The Greystone swim team is growing in numbers of members and their awards garnished. The team went from 24 members last year to 47 for 2016. The team finished fifth overall in their league and the girls finished third – and that was working with many children who were not even able to swim at the beginning of the season. They won two meets this summer and placed second in two other meets. (See swim team video on the Greystone Facebook page.) Some of the individual swimmers finished the season in the top 20 out of a total group of 80+ kids in the city league, with some qualifying to go to the state event. Margot May is the head coach and Taylor Champagne is the assistant coach. “Swimming is a great way for kids to be part of a team, have fun and stay fit,” May said. “Some great swimmers call Greystone their home; the swim team is growing and is a name you will hear in the future.”
