Plans proceed for future downtown celebrations

As evidence of the faith the city and community have in the antiques district, plans are going forward for the 2nd annual Christmas in the Village celebration and the perennial favorite event, Chef’s Evening & Wine Tasting.
Christmas in the Village will commence with the city lighting Old City Hall Nov. 25 (the Friday night following Thanksgiving) and continuing into late December. Christmas Open House will be Saturday, Nov. 26, and the district will be brightly lit to welcome guests as they return to the destination recognized as “The Most Affordable Antiques & Art Shopping in the South.”
The Denham Springs Main Street volunteers will present their 16th annual Chef’s Evening & Wine Tasting, Dec, 1, with local restaurants set up in shops throughout the district to present samples of their fare, along with wine tastings, live music and holiday sales. Watch local media including The Journal for more details as final plans are made.
Please note that the downtown Fall Festival which was scheduled for October 1 has been cancelled for the safety of all concerned as there is still some debris in the area. The Spring Festival will be back April 29, 2017, and better than ever. Girls Night Out planned for Nov. 11 is cancelled but will also return in the spring.

Theatre Antiques continues to rebuild as Salassi Jewelry down the street helps local businesses and homeowners dry out and clean their floors.

Shop local movement encourages store owners to rebuild

John Cavalier, of Cavalier House Books, and Heather Dronet, of Brushfire, sent out a call to all locally-owned businesses – not just those in the antique district – to come together Sept. 19 to brainstorm ways to help bring commerce back to the city.
Discussions took place concerning shops in the Village communicating better with each other about sales, events, etc.
