Mothers & Daughters comes back stronger

Just like 95% of our friends and neighbors, Mothers & Daughters Gift Shop in the Denham Springs Antiques Village took in two feet of water in the great flood. As if that wasn’t enough, all three of our houses flooded too.

I started to give in, then realized I can give up, give in or give it my all! With a God wink, we got going.
Yep, our houses and our business. It was devastating and overwhelming for the first few weeks. I cried for two weeks, started to give in, then realized I can give up, give in or give it my all! With a God wink, we got going.

My friends and family from as far away as Nashville drove in to help us pack up what merchandise wasn’t ruined and move it to a storage room. A church from Alabama sent four big strong men to tear out the building. Then my husband, grandson and I started putting it back together. Along the way, several more family members, church members and friends pitched in to help us. Without the family of God, we never could have finished and moved back in the building in just a few weeks.

When we reopened, we discussed the possibility that we probably wouldn’t sell that much for awhile. I mean, everyone was displaced, torn up and in a mess too. But over the Thanksgiving weekend, we had our two best sales days ever in the history of our business. And we’ve been here for over 21 years!

We have the best customers that have become great friends. They all realized how important it was to support our little community and help get all of us back on our feet. We have been so thankful and so grateful for all of you.
