Movie Tavern reopens 8 months after flood forced renovations

After waiting decades to get a movie theater in Livingston Parish, the closure of Movie Tavern in Juban Crossing following the massive flooding in August 2016, had local people hoping it would be only temporary. They were relieved when the movie theater reopened in late April, 2017, after being closed eight months.
movieMovie Tavern invited Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce members to an April 20th preview. Then they opened to the public and kicked off its “Guardians of Livingston Parish Appreciation Week” the first week in May, extending $1 admission to each Livingston Parish-based first responder.
“We don’t know how long it would have taken us to recover from last year’s flood if it wasn’t for our local first responders,” said Danny DiGiacomo, Vice President of Marketing at Movie Tavern. “They give their heart and soul for this community, so we hope this simple token of gratitude gives each of them a well-deserved chance to sit-back, relax and enjoy a film.”
Regarding their decision to return, DiGiacomo said, “Most all businesses in the parish were impacted by the flood and had to reevaluate their situation. We had been open only about 17 months when we flooded, so it was distressing to have to start all over, but the Livingston Parish market was so vibrant and inviting for us that we almost didn’t have a choice; we knew that we had to come back to Juban Crossing.”
Movie Tavern didn’t rebuild exactly as it had been; they changed a few things and made some improvements. The first thing patrons notice when entering is the lounge area has been enlarged and reconfigured.
“There are multiple TVs throughout the lounge area now, and we’ve added more group seating, as well as more drink and food choices. People don’t have to come see a movie to enjoy Movie Tavern; they can come spend the evening in our lounge,” said DiGiacomo. “We adjust our menu one to two times a year, according to what our customers want, so we took this time to make some changes. We kept popular items and added additional ones.”
